Joe JarasJoseph Andrew Karas was born June 7, 1943 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Lived the first seven and a half years of his life on Beacon Street, Boston, MA. His dad purchased land in Weston, MA and built the family home. In 1950 Joe, his dad and mom, and one brother moved into their new home in Weston. A second brother was born a few years later.

Earliest career choice: Railroad Engineer. It seemed only natural, since, as a youth, he loved watching trains near Silver Hill Station not far from his home.

Second career choice: Veterinarian. "Animals have always been a major part of my life." He enjoyed reading about animals, animal training, and animal health.

In elementary school Joe was fascinated by every aspect of theatre. Rehearsing, performing, sitting in the wings watching, listening, and learning. But when he hit junior high school, the Radio bug bit him.

The wonder of words and the mystery of music blended together! He had to be a Radio Disc Jockey. Although performing in high school plays, Westcott, "The Man Who Came To Dinner" in particular, his career attention focused on Radio. Voted President of The High School Announcer’s Club was a special honor in his senior year. The club’s annual field trips to Boston radio and TV stations solidified his desire to become a Radio DJ. He was accepted at Emerson College, Boston.

Training received at Emerson remains precious. The audition he won at Emerson paid for an entire second semester of study. This woke Dad up. His Father began to look at Broadcasting as something good for his first son. Mom always liked her son's career choices. No one could have better parents. While in college, Joe landed a weekend announcing position at WARE, Ware, MA. He was eighteen years old.

First full time radio position: WCAT, Orange, MA. Next: WSPR, Springfield, at the time, a popular Rock station in western, MA. After arriving in Los Angeles, Joe was hired at KRNO, San Bernardino, and KEZY, Anaheim, but declined both offers, and enrolled at Grantham College of Electronics, Hollywood, CA to study for a First Class Radiotelephone License. (Now: General Radiotelephone License.)

Returning back east, he was "Morning Man" and Talk Show Host on WSRO, Marlboro, MA. Television was getting bigger and bigger. He wanted to explore his possibilities. Was hired at WIHS TV-38 Boston as a Broadcast Technician. After Storer bought the station, call letters changed to: WSBK. While immersed in most all aspects of production and engineering at WSBK TV-38, Joe continued to perform on radio at WORC, Worcester, a classic top rated All Request rock station in central Massachusetts. (Please see: Radio, Wonderful Radio!)

His interest in acting never disappeared. He took several private acting classes with an instructor who worked at The Goodman Theatre of Chicago.

After thirty years of loyal full time employment at TV-38, Joe accepted a buy out offer from WSBK-TV-38, and moved on. In 1995 Joe began marketing himself as a freelance Performer, and TV Production freelancer. His specialty in TV Production: TV Camera Operator. Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Professional Wrestling, Boxing, Lacrosse, Drag Racing, Field Hockey, Soccer, NASCAR, Rugby, Tennis, Golf, Boston Marathon, Track, and others. ABC, ESPN, NESN, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNBC, TSN, CBC, TFN and others.

In addition to Sporting Events, he works Corporate Projects, Network Features, Political Specials: The first televised Presidential Debate in Boston, 2000.  The 2004 Democratic National Convention, Boston. Fox News.  2011 CNN Republican Candidates Debate. St. Anslem College, NH.  Republican Presidential Candidates Debate, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH. Produced by Bloomberg Television, October, 2011.

Freelancing offers flexibility. A chance to pursue long held interests. Accepted into a wonderful set of acting classes at The Palace Theatre, Manchester, NH. A couple weeks after completing classes, he was cast in his first Professional Theatre Production. In addition to Theatre, Joe performs in Corporate Videos, and Films.  For several years he has had the pleasure of writing and voicing Real Estate TV Productions. Connecticut Showcase of Homes.
